Music Magazine Evaulation Question 7

Question 7. Looking back at the preliminary task what do you feel you learnt in the progression from it to a full product>
Looking back at my preliminary task I think I’ve learnt a lot in the progression and progress a lot from the full production. The reason why I’ve learnt a lot from in my progress that I’ve improve how to present information on the front page and content page more properly, the cover lines in a magazine is important because it attracts people attention by telling the audience what is featured in the magazine, another about my cover lines is that I learnt what font suit my magazine, when I was comparing my preliminary task with my music magazine I was looking at the cover lines at my preliminary and it felt like it didn’t suit the magazine and the font made my preliminary task less professional. Back when I was doing my preliminary task I didn’t think about convention so I’ve learnt how to use convention of a real existing magazine, the purpose of using a convention is to make my magazine more professional. When I was doing my preliminary task I didn’t research what convention to use for my preliminary task and the outcome of it turn out not great at all, but I’ve used in my preliminary task a convention of a masthead in a magazine, cover lines and the camera shot of a picture by adding these convention in my preliminary task I thought it professional but it didn’t, this is because the colour of the cover lines on the front page it wasn’t noticeable and if my audience can’t notice the cover lines it shows that I wasn’t using a suitable colour for the cover lines.
Another main tool that I’ve learnt when I was looking back at the preliminary task in the progression from the full product is using Abode Photoshop. Abode Photoshop helped me improve the quality of my image making it more professional by editing the image, using fonts like real existing magazine and also help me structure my magazine by using grid. When I look back at my preliminary I feel like I progress more as I was making my music magazine because I know where to place text with it is suit not just any random place. I’ve also learnt when I was doing my preliminary task that I learnt how use the camera properly and how to take a good quality pictures by where to place my models and also the setting.
I did some primary research by posting up my magazine on social network such like faceboook and twitter so my friends can see my magazine and the reason I’ve done this is to find out if the people like my magazine or what to improve on.

I’ve posted my front page cover of my music magazine on facebook, as you can see there are 3 likes on the image which suggest there are people that like my front cover.

I’ve posted my content page of my music magazine on facebook, as you can see someone left a feed back and said that they like the layout of my content page and the choice of fonts that I’ve used.

I’ve posted my front page cover of my music magazine on facebook, as you can see there is 1 person that like on the image. The reason there maybe one like on the image maybe because there were not many people was online.

Music Magazine Evaulation Question 6

Question 6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

What I learnt about technologies from the process of constructing my music magazine is that I needed lots of technologies to help me construct my music magazine. Firstly I need a camera, a flash box, a soft box, radio trigger and Photoshop software. I’ve used a Canon EOS 400D Digital camera and I’ve used this type of camera because it would of made the quality of my picture very good and also it allowed me to focus on areas that I wanted. I’ve used a Bawens Gemini Esprit gm500 flash because so I could increase the brightness of the pictures that I’ve took since I took the picture in a dark area. I’ve used a 60 cm soft box is because to make the images soft instead of sharp when I took the image the outcome of it made my images soft and it made my image have a good quality as well. I’ve used a radio trigger for the camera because would be connected to the flash and when I take a picture it would time properly and give me the lighting that I want, if I didn’t time the radio trigger properly it would of made the lighting of my image dark. The main problems I had when I was using the camera was that I had to hold the camera it’s because I didn’t not have a tripod which would hold the camera when I take picture and there would be some pictures where I made mistake with the picture because I didn’t hold the camera steady.

As you can see these are the images that I had issues with because as you can see with the image on the left there a huge gap in the image and I wasn’t able to use it for my front cover because it’s not a medium shot because it also showed parts of her leg. And the other image I had issues with because it was a landscape and I can’t use a landscape for a front cover because there no magazine that uses landscape image as their front cover.

Another technology that I’ve learnt about from the process of constructing my music magazine is using Adobe Photoshop CS3 software. My skills on Adobe Photoshop were very limited because I’ve never used Adobe Photoshop before so I found it hard to edit my magazine. What I learnt when I was using Adobe Photoshop was that the tool was easy to use to edit like the brightness/contract tool. The reason why I’ve used the brightness/contract tool was because to make the skin tone darker to make the model more real because when I took the images the images looks too light.
I also learnt that I could import fonts in Adobe Photoshop from www.dafont.com and this really helped me constructed my magazine because it allowed me to used different fonts instead of the default font that was already installed in Adobe Photoshop. In my magazine I’ve used 4 different types of fonts including the barcode with is also a font.
I also learnt that Adobe Photoshop allowed me to make patterns, this was really useful for me because it on my double page spread it I’ve replaced a colour with a pattern and I’ve done this because it was a convention from a real existing magazine. What I’ve done is that I’ve used a rectangular marquee tool and I’ve highlighted part of my model clothe and copy the layer. After I opened up a new page which fit the size of the layer that I’ve copy and I would define the pattern so it would be pattern section and the reason why I’ve done this is because when I use the paint bucket tool it will fill the word with the pattern that I want. After I click on the letter I want and I would use the paint bucket tool and fill the letter with the pattern.

Another thing that I’ve learnt in Adobe Photoshop is that there is a grid where it shows grid line over the page and this was useful for me because I can see where I place my text and where you place your text is important for a magazine because you don’t see text over the place but in a fixed structure

Music Magazine Evaulation Question 5

Question 5. How did you attract/address your audience?

Attracting is important for my music magazine because it can catch people attention to look at the magazine and if they like the look of my magazine they would buy it. Addressing is also important for my music magazine because so my audience can understand what the magazine, if I didn’t address my audience in its appropriate genre the audience wouldn’t buy it because it would have been too complex or would have had my magazine boring and no one wants to make their audience bored.
The first thing I’ve done to attract my audience is with the model on the front page. I’ve used the model on purpose to attract the model because as you can see in the front cover the model looks very attractive and it would attract males to pick up the magazine and buy the magazine. The pose that the model is doing is holding her hair at the end which suggesting that she is playing with her hair this can suggest to the audience she is playing seductive. The shirt she is wearing also makes her seductive because it also tells the audience that she is some kind of foxy mamma. The pink lipstick that my model is wearing attracts the audience because it shows she is making a new trend and most RnB artist like Nicki Minaj wear pink lips stick and this a convention to show that my model is a RnB artist.

Another way I’ve attracted my target audience is by using popular artist and placing them at the top of my masthead. The reason I’ve done that is because it will attract the audience attention because they might like the artist or be interested and buy the magazine. Another way I’ve attracted my audience is by using colour. As you can see I’ve only used 3 colours which is dark blue as the background, red and white for the colour of the text. I’ve used red because it can attract people attention when it has a dark background and I’ve used white because white also goes with a dark background.

How else my music magazine represents the RnB culture is that I’ve used the word “SWAG” or “swagger” I’ve used those words because so I can address to my audience that it’s a informal magazine. Another reason why I’ve used these words is because it’s common a word for RnB artist and I’ve used it because to show my music magazine is an RnB/ youth culture magazine.

Another way how I attracted my audience is by putting “The world’s best music magazine” below the masthead so my audience can see it. I did this on purpose because so my audience can think it’s going to be the best magazine that they’re going to read and it also suggest to the audience that my music magazine that my music magazine is popular.

Another way I’ve attracted my audience is having big bold words. The reason why it does attract my audience is because it’s big so the audience can read the title from far away. Also I’ve made “Katrina sues Drizzy!” in big bold letters because “Drizzy” is a popular artist so I thought it would catch people attention because it would have been interesting.

Music Magazine Evaluation Question 4

Question 4. Who would be the audience for your media product?
The audience for my music magazine would be people are in to the RnB culture, I would say that the magazine would be targeted at Black American people, Latino and Asian people, its because there are artist such like Ne-Yo, Chris Brown, Usher, Stevie Hoang have the most fan in the music industry and I thought I would base my audience who are into RnB and I’ve also targeted people who are Black American people, Latino and Asian people because most of the RnB artist are Black American people, Latino and Asian people.
I’ve decided that I wanted to target 16 to 30 because most of the people are in that certain age listen to the artist that was at the top of front cover on my music magazine such like Trey Songz, Usher, Tyga and Drake and I’ve these artist name on top of the magazine because to show the audience who is in my music magazine so my audience can buy the magazine. The artist such as Trey Songz, Usher, Drake, Chris Brown etc are most played by the audience to today because that are issues that affects the audience such like love or heartbroken so it suggest to the audience that my music magazine are aim at people who are in love or heartbroken. A demographic profile of my audience would wear classy/urban wear brands like Hollister, G star, the hundreds etc the person would also have a good sense of fashion and for the female it would be classy clothes something simple like shirts, baseball jacket or crew necks, converse or vans and leggings or tights, both of the gender would sometimes wear snapbacks and they’re up to date with the trends. The reason why my audience is targeted at 16 – 30 is because they’re usually up to date with the trends and my music magazine includes information to keep my audience up to date.

The audience of my magazine would not aim at would be people are is not in to the RnB culture but they’re into pop culture, rock culture or dance culture this is mainly aim at white people and the artist that are from those type of culture would be artist like “Skrillex”, “Slipknot”, “The prodigy” etc because they’re listen to these type of artist I don’t think have any interest in RnB cause some RnB song doesn’t issues that doesn’t affect them, however any type people are welcome to buy the magazine because the magazine has a fashion section which can inspirer them.

Music Magazine Evaulation Question 3

The media institution I would pick to publish my music magazine is Bauer Media institution. Bauer media institution is Europe’s largest privately owned publishing group. The group is a worldwide media that offers 300 magazines in 15 countries and also online, TV and radio stations. Bauer media is built on the influential media brands such like Kerrang, Q magazine, Kiss radio with creates millions of personal relationship with engaged readers and listener.  The reason why I’ve picked Bauer Media institution is because they don’t publish an RnB magazine like mine but they publish other type of magazine about gossip such like “Heat”, “More!”, “Closer” those type of magazine, they also publish Music magazine such like “Mojo”, “Q” and “Kerrang” the institution also distribution other magazine about sports, lifestyle, motoring and they distribution national broadcast such like “Kiss”, “4Music”, “The Hits radio”.  Since Bauer media institution doesn’t Publish RnB magazine it could benefit them by reaching a wider audience, they would be reaching a wide audience because Bauer doesn’t Publish RnB magazine so if they did they would be getting more audience cause they can Publish more that one genre, by doing this it will lead to a increase of popularity to Bauer. another benefit for Bauer media institution for distributing my magazine it wouldn’t create too much competition with other publishing titles because Bauer media doesn’t Publish RnB, Hip Hop type magazine this will benefit them because it would affect any relationship with other publishing titles so no other publishing titles that was Bauer was distributing would pick another distributor. Another benefit of Bauer media institution of distributing my music magazine is it would a massive financial benefit for Bauer because they would receive a massive audience that none of the other magazine had got from because they have never Publish a RnB type of magazine, by receiving a massive audience their sales would increase and this will lead to a increase of profit and with a increase of profit they could spend on luxury that they want.
I would distribute my music magazine to music stores such like HMV because since my magazine is about music so I thought it would fit in with the HMV store. Since HMV is one of the biggest store in the UK I thought it would be best if I distribute my magazine there cause HMV sells music there and a lot of music lover shop there and music lover would purchase my music magazine cause it might attract their interest. I would distribute my music magazine in a book shop or a magazine such like WHSmith because it would be suitable there since it’s a book/ magazine shop so it’s accessible to the audience. How I would distribute my music magazine to the company is by writing to them asking if I could sell my music magazine there without them paying for the magazine but If the magazine makes a sale the company can keep a percentage of the magazine fee so the company would lose money if they brought my music magazine.

Music Magazine Evaluation Question 2

Question 2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?
My music magazine is targeted at people who are into RnB culture both male and female that are into music and fashion. I represented the RnB or hip hop though the images that I’ve used, the style, and also the words that I’ve used.
I’ve chosen a girl to model for my front cover is because the person is good looking so it will attract male audience to buy the magazine. The model on the front page represents the RnB culture because the clothes that she is wearing a Leopard shirt which suggest to the audience that she is classy and simple like the female artist Jennifer Lopez. I got the model to pose like she is holding her hair because it to show that she is hot because most female artist on the front cover of the magazine touches their faces or hairs which suggest to the audience that they are hot. This is an also a convention because I also got inspired by real existing magazine that had female models on their front cover.

I’ve also chosen the name “Katrina” for the model because it suggest to the audience that she is strong because of the hurricane Katrina which damage America in 2005 and it tells that audience that she might damage America again because she sues the American artist “Drizzy” over copyrights and publishing rights because her voice was used in “Drizzy room” when “Drizzy” did not ask for her permission to use her voice in the track and also “Drizzy” did no give her credit for the song.

I’ve chosen this model to model for my contents page because to show that my music magazine is aim at all genders because I’ve used all genders in my music magazine. Another reason why I chosen him for my music magazine its because of a convention the gold teeth suggest that is a RnB artist because most RnB male artist such like Nelly have gold teeth or grillz so I thought I such use him as a model because it would suggest to the audience that the model is a RnB artist. The expression on the model is happy and how I know he is happy is because the model is smiling, i made the model smile is also to show what type of music the model makes which is happy music and also I’ve made the smile on purpose because to show of his gold teeth. The clothes the model is wearing are a warm coat. This suggests to the audience what type of weather season it is and this is important to the audience it can tell what type of month it is.

For my double page spread as you can see that my model poses looks dominate because she got one of her foot on a amplifier. What this pose really means is that she is dominating music because she sue one of the top successful RnB artist called “Drizzy” and the successful RnB artist is the amplifier because the amplifier relates to music and it’s shows that she is stronger or powerful than him because she got her foot on the amplifier which suggest to the audience that the successful RnB artist has got lower standards than her.  The model expression is happy you can tell by the smile on the face that she is over the moon it’s because she sued the artist “Drizzy” and she got money out of it.  This appeal to the audience because RnB songs are mostly about happy songs and tell suggests that the model creates happy songs as well.

Music Magazine Evaluation Question 1

Question 1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media product?
What I did to create my music magazine was to get some influence from a real existing magazine to see how they structure the magazine and what kind of features to attract their target audience, I’ve then base my music magazine on the “Vibe” magazine because it’s a successful magazine because it is a popular magazine because every person who listen to RnB would think of the “Vibe” magazine straight away. In my music magazine is full of convention because I’ve done this because to make my magazine more professional in the genre the magazine is, which RnB it is. One of the conventions that I’ve used in my music magazine on the front page was the masthead. What I’ve done is, I’ve look at all the magazine that has a RnB genre and I’ve look at the masthead and I saw that all the real existing magazine used a san serif font where all the letter’s doesn’t have a flick and it’s big and bold, so I’ve used a San serif font as a convention because it’s also common for a RnB magazine to have a san serif font such like vibe and XXL. I also used a san serif font it stands from my magazine with will attract people attention when they are looking for a magazine and also I’ve used it because it makes my magazine strong and powerful because it’s just looks big and bold. Another convention that I’ve done is the putting artist at the top of the masthead, the reason why I’ve done this is to show what artist are in the in the magazine to attract the target audience.
Another convention that I’ve done with the front cover is that the picture. What I’ve done in order to follow the convention is to take a medium shot, this is a convention because as you can see with other real existing magazine is that all have medium close up or medium shot pictures and I’ve decided to take a medium shot because to keep my music magazine professional. Another convention that I’ve done is that used more that two colours in my front page. I’ve notice that real rnb existing magazine used more than two colours for the front cover and I’ve changed some cover lines and text into red so I’ve more than two colours on my front cover and I’ve also done this to keep my music magazine professional.
Another convention that I’ve done in the front page is using box for a text. The reason why I’ve done this is to also attract people attention because of the red text it stands out from the box. I’ve also used the box to make my music magazine professional because it tells people the audience what is major in the magazine.

A convention that I’ve done in the front page is too used the “+” sign because it tells the audience that is also feature in the magazine. Another reason why I’ve used the (+) sign is to make my magazine more modern because you don’t want to sell a boring magazine or a plain magazine to your audience.

Another convention that I’ve used in a the front page is the most common feature ever in a magazine is the bar code, price of the magazine, date of issue and the website. The reason why I used the bar code is because every magazine has got one to sell. The reason why I putted in the price is because to tell the audience how much the magazine and I made the price red because so it will also attract the customer attention. I’ve putted in the date of issue because my music magazine isn’t about music it’s also about fashion it also tell what season it is and also tells updates the customer with the new fashion trend because every season has a new trend. How ever I’ve not follow the similar convention as the “Vibe” magazine where it’s all put together in a box but i followed where they put it down the bottom of the page.

The conventions that I’ve done in my content page which I’ve got inspired by the “Vibe” magazine is the title of the page, the picture of the model, and the list of features that would be in the magazine. The title of the page convention is something original that I’ve thought of because I didn’t want to copy everything from the magazine but I’ve decided to something more original. What I’ve done is I’ve spitted the word up and made it go side ways instead of going downwards because I was thinking about the space of the content page. The picture of the model is a convention because both of the pictures are a medium close up and I’ve chosen a medium close up for my contents page because most RnB magazine have medium close up. Also the pose of the model is a convention because they both got their hands in their pocket this was done because this to show that they got their hands busy which means they most of the time they are busy with their music career.
The convention that I’ve done in the double page is the title and the structure of the page. I’ve done a similar style as the title of the “Vibe” magazine double page spread but I’ve decided that i wanted to make my title page original by using the colour of the clothes that my model was wearing because the model in the “Vibe” double page spread had the same colour as the title and as you can see the first letter of the paragraph which is the “B” in the “Vibe” magazine it’s the same colour as the title of the double page spread and i decided to do the same because it looked professional cause most double page spread are like that. I’ve done a similar structure as the “Vibe” magazine but instead of doing paragraphs I decided to do columns because I thought it would be more professional for a music magazine.
